The Melbourne Welsh Male Voice Choir is again proud to present our annual St David’s Day Concert
Now in its 41st year, our Choir is steeped in the Welsh chorale tradition well known for its power, emotion and the special essence and texture that comes from Welsh – Europe’s oldest living language. Whilst Welsh is the foundation of our repertoire, we’ve been thrilling audiences in Australia and around the world performing concerts in many languages including English, South African, Italian, Latin, Maori, Aboriginal and German songs.
This year’s program will include our well-known Welsh pieces and some newer contemporary arrangements which will be familiar to the ear but enhanced by the choirs’ rich two and four-part choral harmonies.
We will also present Heulen Cynfal, a Welsh Soprano soloist, who returns to sing with us once again. Heulen has sung with us on a number of occasions, and, in 2010, toured with the choir in USA and Canada. Born in Trawsfynydd, Wales, Heulen has honed her craft from a youngster then studying voice in Manchester and Cardiff, she graduated as the Royal Academy of Music in London. She has performed as a finalist for the Bryn Terfel Scholarship, and in the summer of 2023, she won the Blue Riband, the National Eisteddfod’s top prize for soloists.
