The music of Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Miguel Rios draws from a deep well of influences. From his unconventional, freewheeling Queensland childhood and mixed heritage from The Americas to absorbing a classic folk-rock soundtrack of the 60s and 70s. His albums Slaughterhouse Road (2021) and Running Blue (2024) deliver a captivating mix of intricate guitar playing (think John Fahey and Leo Kottke), intriguing storytelling (Bob Dylan, Paul Kelly) and evocative vocals (Leonard Cohen). Rios pays homage to the Earth and her keepers, setting the mood – whether radiant or foreboding – through a sonic kaleidoscope of perspectives.
